The U.S. Census Bureau reported Friday morning that its third estimate of third-quarter U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) rose at an annual rate of 4.1%. That was sharply higher than the 2.5% growth rate for the second quarter and better than the second estimate issued two weeks ago calling for an increase of 3.6%. The Census Bureau said that the jump was due to larger personal consumption expenditures (PCE) and nonresidential fixed investment.
The short version: U.S. consumers are spending again. Real PCE rose 2% in the third quarter, up from 1.8% in the second quarter. Spending on durable goods rose nearly 8%, and spending on nondurable goods increased by nearly 3%. Both are improvements over the second quarter. Spending on services rose 0.7%, lower than the 1.2% second-quarter increase.
The big jump in nonresidential fixed investment came in intellectual property products, which saw a gain of 5.8% in the third quarter compared with a drop of 1.5% in the second quarter. The intellectual property products category includes sales and licensing of patents, copyrights, and trademarks, as well as R&D expenditures and the sale of such products as software, music, video and books to individuals or businesses. The largest increase among these products was software, up 0.14% followed by a 0.08% bump in R&D.

Of course, there are some exceptions. My favorite outlier, about as non-oil and gas as you can get, is StoneMor Partners LP (NYSE: STON). StonMor is an MLP that manages cemeteries... and it pays a 9.5% yield!

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Markos Kaminis]
Whether the stock is overvalued or not does not matter at this point, because an impact to its subscriber base due to the data sharing news would probably change market expectations for the company's operations and affect both earnings estimates and valuation multiples. It would probably drive the shares lower in my view, and I see no reason to risk that by holding the stock. Long-term holders, of course, have tax considerations to consider, and the news is still filing out. If Verizon's peers are also implicated clearly, perhaps with the aid of a Verizon PR push, this issue would be effectively mitigated. Though even in that case, there could be market share loss by all major American firms, with companies like T-Mobile US (TMUS) and Virgin Media (VMED) benefiting, whether they have also been involved or not. In any event, for new stakeholders, or those willing to deal with tax implications; or for those interested in a potential short opportunity, I would sell the stock today. I see no reason to bear risk while this issue and its implications are still unraveling, and while VZ has thus far not been significantly discounted for it.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By James Brumley]
As is so often the case, however, the market’s activity of late has been more random and coincidental than rational or calculated. Translation: Don’t read too much into the pullback from small-cap stocks. In fact, that pullback appears to have created some strong buying opportunities among the Russell 2000′s constituents. Here are four such small caps that bargain-hunters may want to consider first.
Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRAA)For better or worse, collecting bad debts is a business that will never go out of style. That’s why Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRAA) is a solid all-weather play, particularly after shares of PRAA stock sank nearly 25% between October and February. Shares have made a modest recovery effort since then, but most of the rebound meat is still left on the bone.

Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRAA) is engaged in the business of purchasing, managing and collecting portfolios of defaulted consumer receivables, as well as offering accounts receivable management and payment services. This stock closed up 3.8% to $54.53 in Monday's trading session.
Monday's Volume: 629,000
Three-Month Average Volume: 435,466
Volume % Change: 50%From a technical perspective, PRAA jumped higher here and broke out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $53 to $54.62 with above-average volume. This move also pushed shares of PRAA into new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. If this breakout holds, then shares of PRAA could be setting up to trend significantly higher.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in PRAA as long as it's trending above Monday's low of $52.71 to $52 and then once it sustains a move or close above its new 52-week high at $54.93 with volume that hits near or above 435,466 shares. If we get that move soon, then PRAA will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $60 to $65.
